“Helping Hands in Education”
For the
elementary school children of
Liancourt, Haiti.
A second community project was organized that is
making a difference in someone’s life.
Since last year, the
Pompano Beach Rotary Club
and Perin Registre, a graduate from
Blanche Ely High School, have orchestrated fundraising efforts and
collected enough donations to build a school for over 180 children in a
remote area outside of St. Mark, Haiti. These children would have had
to travel more than two hours to attend the nearest learning facility.
With the help of these people and organizations, there was enough money
to build a small school, teacher’s on site living quarters and an
outhouse. Donations of school items have kept them in supply but of
course are always being used and still needed. This is where we came
in.
The FLHS Ladies Night Out group collectively raised
over $300.00 to purchase 180 plastic school boxes and filled them with
supplies of pencils, pens, crayons, scissors and glue. We also
purchased writing and colored construction paper, rulers and folders.
We also contacted the local sales rep at the
Proctor and Gamble Company, which donated 180 tubes of toothpaste and
directed us to their web site for instructional information. With their
permission, we copied colored pages of children’s dental care in the
French language. In addition, the Pompano Rotary Club donated $250.00
towards the purchase of toothbrushes and other miscellaneous school
supplies. The Registre family of Coral Springs again provided free
shipping via their export business.
Your
donations were greatly appreciated and
ARE
making a difference in the education of many children. Thanks for all
your efforts and support and keeping the Flying L’s spirit alive!
